British Town Covers Landmarks With Wikipedia QR Codes

The town of Monmouth located in Wales this week debuted “Monmouthpedia” — a virtual town that displays a wide array of information and data via QR codes. The idea for Monmouthpedia began at a TEDx talk in Bristol when John Cummings, an occasional Wikipedia editor, suggested from the audience that the UK Chapter use QR codes to “do a whole town.” Since then, the Welsh town has spent the last six months coding its various people and destinations, including writing 500 articles available in 25 languages to support tourism. Local residents and businesses have adopted plaques, labels, and stickers adorned with QR codes that will enable users to access the specific Wikipedia page related to the spot.
