In A Faithless World

Born in the fall of 1993 in the Sacramento, California area, SOUL FISHER is composed of three musicians with a common desire: to leave the hype and return to the heart of the music they had played and been influenced by all their lives.

Tom Giusti, Bob Book and Dave McKay had all previously been members of CHAIN REACTION, a commercial hard rock band. Finding themselves without a drummer in the summer of '93, they began working on an "acoustic" set of music as a means of continuing to perform while they searched for a new drummer. By autumn, hooked on what had become for them a new style of artistic expression, the decision was made to adopt SOUL FISHER as their new name and to focus all their energy on developing the potential in this new music they were creating.

SOUL FISHER, while at times resembling some of the "folk rock" bands of the sixties, is very much "a child of it's time". Combining the perspective and sophistication that rock music gained during the 70's, 80's and early 90's with elements of the passionate, street wise and often experimental music of the late 60's and early 70's, SOUL FISHER is carving out a unique niche in the current music scene.

Tom Giusti (guitars/vocals) is a graduate of Musicians Institute/GIT and veteran of several hard rock bands from the Sacramento area. Tom's feisty, percussive guitar style brings an urgency to SOUL FISHER's sound that will surprise those who may routinely write off music which includes acoustic instrumentation as "laid back" and "insipid". This guy stands up and stomps!

Dave McKay (keyboards/vocals) is best known for his keyboard work with BLOODGOOD on the American and European legs of their Harvest Tour. (Check him out on the To Germany With Love CD!) Dave's rock solid keys provide depth and soul to the sonic palette, giving SOUL FISHER a range of musical expression unavailable to many current guitar driven bands.

Bob Book (lead vocals/guitars) is a passionate performer and seasoned song writer. Influenced by artists such as Neil Young, Janis Joplin, Larry Norman, Joe Cocker, Van Morrison, U2 and Randy Stonehill, his previous credits include being signed to Myrrh Records as a member of NORTH BOUND in the early 80's, a stint as a solo artist (album title: WALK THROUGH THE FIRE) and various independent writing projects. Bob lends a compelling social and spiritual consciousness to SOUL FISHER's music.

Together, Bob, Dave and Tom are a force to be reckoned with! SOUL FISHER reveals a depth of artistic philosophy, musical integrity and spiritual commitment that is destined to make them required listening in the 90's!

SOUL FISHER - TAKE THE BAIT!

We realize that many of you who may be reviewing this promotional material are actively involved in leadership roles for various youth oriented, Christian organizations. If you are, you are probably asking yourself, "Who are these guys and why should I allow them to have access to the hearts and minds of my kids?!?"

Please consider the following as an introduction to who we are and what we're all about.

Our identity and reason for being, individually and collectively, can be summed up in these four words:

Christians

Acts 1:8 tells us that we are to BE witnesses for our Lord Jesus Christ. This is more than just telling those around us who Jesus is and what He has done for us. We are required to have a life style that constitutes a living testimony to the person and work of Christ. As we surrender our thoughts, actions and attitudes to Him, the Holy Spirit enables us to fulfill our Lord's Great Commission. Everything we do must grow out of this first, most basic building block of our identity; our Faith!

Artists

As artists, we believe we are called to accurately and incitefully reflect the nature of our relationship with God, humanity and the world around us from the point of view of our historic and social setting. The Psalms often provide a very personal description of the author's circumstances and feelings (good and bad) as well as God's activity or desired activity in those circumstances. Since we can identify with the author's situation, our faith is encouraged by reading these artistic expressions.

Musicians

Musically, we are driven to create an honest, passionate, revealing expression of our artistic vision. We have been influenced by musicians who allowed their music to express their deepest thoughts and feelings, and in so doing have moved us to take an honest look at our own lives and what we hold to be important. Though energetic and magnetic, a lot of current popular music seems to confuse style or posture with substance. We are part of a growing number of musicians who are dissatisfied with the musical status quo. It is our goal to play from the heart!

Entertainers

If our performances can divert minds (help them escape) from the day to day patterns (ruts) we naturally develop and shed the light of a different perspective on life, we will consider ourselves successful entertainers. When we are open and seeing things from a fresh point of view, the Holy Spirit can effect the on going character development that God desires in all of us. That's what we're all about!

Let me just say that we believe that if we are exercising our gifts correctly and fulfilling God's call on our lives, we can be an effective tool to encourage the saints and win the lost.
