For someone who describes himself as "a born dissenter," Rich Mullins seems to have a lot of fun making music and sharing tbe Gospel. Born in rural Indiana and raised on a farm, Rich Mullins was one of those kids who always loved going to church. "I was attracted to the music as well as the message," he says. "Eventually I joined the choir, which toured all across the midwest." Rich fused his twin loves of music and Christ, deciding early on to seek a career as a Contemporary Christian artist.

As my family was headed home on Saturday night (9/21/97), my wife and I were shocked to hear (on the radio) that Rich Mullins was killed in a car accident. I've had the pleasure of meeting Rich at Gospel Music Week in Nashville and also hearing him perform several times. His music has inspired all of us throughout the years. Classics like "Sing Your Praise to the Lord" and "Awesome God" have touched millions of lives. Even my children sing "Awesome God" and go through the hand motions (which I never knew existed). We thank Rich for all that he has done for us. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family. We will miss him dearly, but we know that he is in a better place.
