SlideShare has been called content’s marketing sleeping giant. The opportunities on the platform are many, but marketers have yet to tap into its full potential.
That could change. SlideShare is one of the few social platforms that doesn’t have an ROI problem. Marketers--especially in B2B--are actually getting leads from the content they post on SlideShare. Read on for this week's batch of compelling stats.
1. In Q4 of 2013, the site averaged 60 million unique visitors a month and 215 million page views. SlideShare is among the top 120 most-visited Web sites in the world.
2. It’s been reported that 45 percent of the presentations on SlideShare have 10 to 30 slides, with an average of 24 words per slide.
3. Since the site was created in 2007, SlideShare has had more than 10 million presentation uploads, drawing 50 million visitors and 3 billion views a month.
4. SlideShare receives 500 percent more traffic from business owners than Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.
5. The six most used tags on SlideShare are business, statistics, social media, market, trends, and research.
6. Twenty percent of visitors come to SlideShare directly from Google.
7. So how did the world of presentations shift on SlideShare last year? The results are in: Shorter and more visual content saw the most success. The average number of slides per presentation fell by four slides from last year, from 18.8 to 14.4. In line with the current trend, there there were also 29 percent fewer words per slide in 2013.
8. The number of images per presentation jumped a whopping 53 percent since last year. The brain processes images about 60,000 times faster than text, and presenters may have finally gotten the picture. The size of images also increased 16 percent on average, with a font size growth of 58 percent.
9. Mobile views on SlideShare are on the rise, having seen a 223 percent jump from last year.
10. Infographics on SlideShare are liked five times more than presentations, and 21 times more than documents. They are also shared more on social networks.
11. In 2013, Mary Meeker’s Internet Trends 2013 report became the most viral presentation on SlideShare: It got 1 million views in just four days.
12. The most searched terms on SlideShare are marketing, social media and Facebook.
13. The top five traffic referrers to SlideShare were blogger, Facebook, Wordpress, LinkedIn, and Twitter in 2013.
14. Users add 400,000 new presentations to SlideShare per month.
