We doubt there are actually only 13 marketing trends to be aware of for the coming year—there could be more. But as is the wont of editorial people, we decided that 13 trends for 2013 had a ring to it that would catch readers’ attention. And so it did: Our “13 Major Marketing Trends For 2013” slide show has been a big hit this week, and, in case you missed it, I thought I’d give you some highlights to whet your appetite.
Have you been keeping an eye of your digital wallet? This one is first on the list, for, as one observer noted: “Mobile payments will trend upward in 2013.”
Big data, big data, big data. Yes, you heard about it over and over again in 2012. Here’s what to expect in 2013: “Organizations that tear down data silos and create more efficient ways to connect all of the [data] dots will unlock exponential gains over the next few years.”
If hearing about big data wore you down in 2012, then hearing about mobile in 2013 is going to be tough because this is where much of the action is going to be this year. According to the report, “The post-PC era has arrived, and any major organization that isn’t investing heavily in mobile tools and strategies is DOA.”
QR codes have been lurking around for some time now, and nobody seems to know how to use them to any great advantage. If our report is right, though, 2013 is going to be the year: “QR code usage will grow and become more relevant as marketing managers learn about the sophisticated ways they can be used.” This one I will believe when I see it.
Those are just a few of the topics that are covered in the slide show. Have a click through the entire thing to see what else might be in store for marketers this year.
